Jumbo Boiled Peanuts

There are VERY few things I like better than some good ol’ boiled peanuts! They say it is a southern thing, but I believe that no matter where you are from, its never to late to join the boiled peanut party train!! Every time I go home to visit Madison, Mississippi, My daddy has those boiled peanuts ready to hit the pot! I do enjoy them pretty salty, so feel free to put in less salt. Taste as you go, and don’t be scared to throw in some variation. I personally love a traditional salty peanut, but every now and then I want that KICK!

If you’ve never had boiled peanuts before, its easy and its something every living being should try:)

Enjoy!!!

Prep Time 10 minutes
Total Time 1 day
Course Appetizer, Main Course, Side Dish

Equipment

  • 6-7 qt Crock Pot
  • colander

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds JUMBO GREEN Raw Peanuts You can also use Jumbo Raw, when its not season for Green.
  • 1/2 cup salt I use table salt, but feel free to use Kosher.
  • 10 cups water may need to add more later

Instructions

  • Make sure you thoroughly rinse the peanuts in your colander. Until water is clear
  • If you are using older raw peanuts, it may help the boiling process to let them soak a few hours covered in a water filled dish.
  • Place clean peanuts in the crock pot and add your salt (any other seasonings)
  • then place ten cups of water or so on top.
  • mix it as much as you can
  • place lid on top and put on LOW for 22-24 hours
  • You will want to go stir every few hours or so, especially before bed.
  • Add any water to it if needed.
  • serve and enjoy

Notes

In boiling older raw peanuts, you’ll definitely need to use a lot of salt as you need to refill the boiling water continuously to achieve your desired softness. To check if you’ve reached the desired softness, take a sample out of the pot to taste them.
Fresh green peanuts in shells, not the roasted or cooked ones, are the best type to boil.
1/2 cup salt (You can reduce this, I like mine SALTY!)
For a Spicy Variation- Throw some Jalapeno’s in. Or maybe a tablespoon of your favorite cajun seasoning, with a dash of red pepper flakes.
I LOVE using my Jacobsen Salt, There are so many flavors!!
2 Ibs peanuts
  1. Wash the Peanuts.
  2. Place Peanuts in 6 quart crock pot
  3. Salt and other seasonings
  4. Pour in 10 cups of water, might need to add more later.
  5. Drain and serve warm or cold.
Cover and cook on Low until peanuts are soft, about least 24 hours on LOW or 16 hours on HIGH. Stir occasionally, and add water as needed to keep peanuts covered.
